Which exact version, from where?

If you are using pdns-server-4.0.0~alpha2 from the Ubuntu 16.04, I 
strongly recommend you don't. It has some serious problems in particular 
when using mysql backend.  There are 4.0.1 packages at repo.powerdns.com 
that you can use instead.
