SOA-Edit does not influence/manipulate the serial in the DB.
SOA-EDIT is used to fake the Serial (on outgoing NOTIFYs and responses which contains a SOA RR) compared to the value stored in DB.

So whenever a serial is used, th SOA-EDIT algorithm is used to construct a "faked" serial depending on DB-serial and datetime.
