[Pdns-users] Does PowerDNS need the '.' domain?

It hasn't. It might have been picked up by a migration, possibly by
zone2sql.

Remove it at your earliest opportunity, unless you are an actual root-server
for the '.' zone :-)

As you've noticed, considering  yourself authoritative for the . gives
strange results.
