That's exactly how I do it, and I also use gmysql.

I have a couple slave zones I've recently added that haven't been picked up. I
think you may have to set the last_check field but I'm not 100% sure, as I
only have a few slave zones right now and I don't recall how I set up the
original ones. I'll go look and report back to the list later...
