[Pdns-users] dig any and wildcard handling

Hi,

we do have some problems with powerDNS and itÃ
Âœs wildcard handling (or
at least we believe so). We have two wildcard entries for every
domain. One for type A and one for MX. The MX wildcard just makes
*.domain.tld point to mail.domain.tld

I get the following result:

server2:~# dig @ns1.tmkis.de 2003.tmkis.de any

; <<>> DiG 9.2.1 <<>> @ns1.tmkis.de 2003.tmkis.de any
;; global options: printcmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 64070
;; flags: qr aa rd; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0

;; QUESTION SECTION:
;2003.tmkis.de. IN ANY

;; Query time: 7 msec
;; SERVER: 217.160.165.213#53(ns1.tmkis.de)
;; WHEN: Mon Sep 22 08:46:15 2003
;; MSG SIZE rcvd: 31

No Answer here... but if I ask specifically for A record I get what I
expected:

server2:~# dig @ns1.tmkis.de 2003.tmkis.de A

; <<>> DiG 9.2.1 <<>> @ns1.tmkis.de 2003.tmkis.de A
;; global options: printcmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 14843
;; flags: qr aa rd; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0

;; QUESTION SECTION:
;2003.tmkis.de. IN A

;; ANSWER SECTION:
2003.tmkis.de. 86400 IN A 217.24.217.180

;; Query time: 8 msec
;; SERVER: 217.160.165.213#53(ns1.tmkis.de)
;; WHEN: Mon Sep 22 08:46:47 2003

Strange anyway that you cannot dig for MX....

server2:~# dig @ns1.tmkis.de 2003.tmkis.de MX

; <<>> DiG 9.2.1 <<>> @ns1.tmkis.de 2003.tmkis.de MX
;; global options: printcmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 48806
;; flags: qr aa rd; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0

;; QUESTION SECTION:
;2003.tmkis.de. IN MX

;; Query time: 6 msec
;; SERVER: 217.160.165.213#53(ns1.tmkis.de)
;; WHEN: Mon Sep 22 08:46:49 2003
;; MSG SIZE rcvd: 31

Any hints here?
