Thanks a lot! This clearly seems to point to a regression in 1.9.8 
indeed, since the configuration on the second server did not change. 
However I reviewed the (few) changes between 1.9.7 and 1.9.8 and 
unfortunately nothing really pops up. I checked whether anything changed 
in the FreeBSD port between these two versions but there was no changes[1].
So I'm a bit out of ideas, getting a core dump / backtrace would be 
great, and if that's not possible confirming whether the issue indeed 
goes away if you downgrade to 1.9.7 would be helpful as well.
