From miod.vallat at powerdns.com Thu Aug 7 10:22:06 2025 From: miod.vallat at powerdns.com (Miod Vallat) Date: Thu, 7 Aug 2025 12:22:06 +0200 Subject: [Pdns-users] PowerDNS Authoritative Server 4.9.8 Message-ID: Today, we are releasing a new version of the PowerDNS Authoritative Server. This 4.9.8 version only contains a small new feature: the last modification timestamps of the records are exposed in the REST API, when using the LMDB backend. A detailed list of changes can be found in the [1]changelog. Please make sure to read the [2]Upgrade Notes before upgrading. The [3]tarball and its [4]signature are available at [5]downloads.powerdns.com. Packages for various distributions are available from [6]repo.powerdns.com. Please send us all feedback and issues you might have via the [7]mailing list, or in case of a bug, via [8]GitHub. Note that per our [9]End of life policy, the release of version 4.9 marked the end of support for version 4.6. Compared to the latest 5.2 release, this release candidate includes the following changes: * Recursor can now generate OpenTelemetry trace data, exported via the existing Protobuf stream. See the documentation.[1] * The embedded webserver used to display the status page and process REST API calls has been rewritten in Rust and supports multiple listen addresses and TLS. * Primitives were added to read and write[2] the table used to record measured speeds of authoritative servers. * The meson build system is now fully supported and used to build the published packages. We encourage third-party packagers to switch to meson, as the auto-tools based build infrastructure will be removed in the future. * We now include packages for Enterprise Linux (RHEL and derivatives) 10 derived systems for the amd64 and arm64 platforms. As always, there are also many smaller bug fixes and improvements, please refer to the changelog[3] for additional details. When upgrading do not forget to check the upgrade guide[4]. Please send us all feedback and issues you might have via the mailing list[5], or in case of a bug, via GitHub[6]. The tarball[7] (signature[8]) is available from our download server[9] and packages for several distributions are available from our repository[10]. Older release trains are supported for one year after the following major release. Consult the EOL policy[11] for more details. We are grateful to the PowerDNS community for the reporting of bugs, issues, feature requests, and especially to the submitters of fixes and implementations of features. Today, we are delighted to release PowerDNS Authoritative Server version 5.0.0. As you may remember from the previous test releases announcements, the main new feature of this release is the bind-style ``views'' feature. But of course, we have also been working on bug fixes, other features, and documentation improvements, as usual. Note that per our [9]End of life policy, the release of the final 5.0.0 version marks the end of support for version 4.7. However, users with a commercial agreement with PowerDNS.COM BV or Open-Xchange can receive support for releases which are End Of Life. If you are such a user, this EOL statement does not apply to you.
