From my point of view, you need an internal Auth server for the “Internal View” in which you can add an internal domain with all the records you need to resolve internally.
Once this is done, tell the recursor to forward only the internal queries to “your domain” to the internal auth server instead of the normal one.

Of course, but we have thousands of machines and we want to manage these records centrally. Ideally not in a hosts file, but in a nice GUI and a database with replication.

If you are using a Windows system on the internal set up. You can add the details in your hosts file on each machine
Domain1.com 192.168.2.10
Domain2.com 192.168.2.20
Then flush your dns on the machines
