Sorry, forget what I said. I was confusing the programs and it was spamd
which wasn't starting. PowerDNS works fine. :-)

Hello,

I have installed the original PowerDNS for Ubuntu 16.04, both the
pdns-server and recursor. I've selected the official package source to
get version 4.0.1 instead of some 4.0 alpha.

Recently when the server has rebooted after installing updates, the
PowerDNS server wasn't running. I could start it without a problem, but
it didn't come up on its own.

I guess there is no start up script or it's not working.

Is it intentional that I have to take care of starting the service myself?

I would create a simple systemd script to invoke '/etc/init.d/pdns
start' when the MySQL server is running. How would I write that? I could
run it when everything else has finished (multi-user.target). But
actually I believe that a DNS server should start as soon as possible.
