If you have delegated that subdomain (eg. foo.example.com) to a powerdns server you can add foo.examle.com SOA and add any additional records such as www.foo.example.com A to the zone.

This should resolve with your PowerDNS server, just like any other DNS server, the key is that you need to delegate it.
