When I use hint-file configuration to set a hint-file, powerDNS-recursor will just use the ip address in hint file without doing a NS query to root server. I wonder if it is a implement difference( cause I know bind and unbound would do a NS query) or I wipe the cache in a wrong way(I use ”rec_control wipe-cache .” to wipe the cache).

Dec 19 14:04:09 Done priming cache with root hints

14:04:10.074423 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 16861, offset 0, flags [DF], proto UDP (17), length 45)

14:04:10.086680 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 61, id 58479, offset 0, flags [none], proto UDP (17), length 520)
    202.12.27.33.53 > 188.226.149.249.61214: [udp sum ok] 16095*- q: NS? . 13/0/15 [answer omitted]

Dec 19 14:04:10 Refreshed . records

In other words, I see an NS query to one root server (a different one for each of 3 attempts).

Can you clarify your question and/or show us what you are seeing?

Kind regards,
