I think I've found the problem: the g2.ebay.com DNS server 66.211.167.40 doesn't understand the EDNS extension my PowerDNS is sending and replies with an NXDomain. By setting disable_edns=yes in the pdns_recursor.conf file and restarting it it works. Thanks for your support.
