I tried with pdns-3.2 and svn head, and was unable to reproduce your problem.

Can you show me your remotebackend script, maybe? The one I used for testing
is at http://cmouse.desteem.org/remote.txt and dnsperf input was generated with

LC_ALL=C egrep '^[A-Za-z]+$' /usr/share/dict/american-english | awk '{ print $1 ".example.com A" }' > dnsperf.in
