Your problem is you've used the tree method but your ldap layout isn't exactly 
like it has to be in this case. Searching for *.banana.net would result in 
dc=*,dc=banana,dc=net but instead your entry is dc=any,dc=banana,dc=net.

If you replace dc=any by dc=* or switch to the simple method, you should get 
the correct answer.
