Greeting All,

I have my PowerDNS installed and it seems to be working just fine,
but....

My a home machine, I can do NSLOOKUP like:
-----------------------------------------

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\lonnie>nslookup 205.177.75.35

Name: mail.outstep.com
Address: 205.177.75.35

C:\Documents and Settings\lonnie>nslookup mail.outstep.com
DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
Name: mail.outstep.com
Address: 205.177.75.35

-----------------------------------------

and it looks like the reverse DNS is working, but if I go to:

http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=outstep.com

I get this error at the bottom of the page:

------------------------------------------
Reverse DNS entries for MX records ERROR:

The IP of one or more of your mail server(s) have no reverse DNS
(PTR) entries (if you see "Timeout" below, it may mean that your DNS
servers did not respond fast enough). RFC1912 2.1 says you should
have a reverse DNS for all your mail servers. It is strongly urged
that you have them, as many mailservers will not accept mail from
mailservers with no reverse DNS entry. You can double-check using
the 'Reverse DNS Lookup' tool at the DNSstuff site (it contacts your
servers in real time; the reverse DNS lookups in the DNS report use
our local caching DNS server). The problem MX records are:
35.75.177.205.in-addr.arpa [No reverse DNS entry; 'Server Failure'
(check it)]

-----------------------------------------------

I just want to ensure that PoweDNS is working properly and that
maybe there is not a problem with my pdns.conf as well.

Has anyone experienced something like this?

I also read a message from someone on the list that has been using
PowerDNS in production environments with over 8-million entries
which is very impressive and I have to assume that they are doing
REVERSE DNS lookups as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone,

Lonnie Cumberland
