The guardian should keep it alive as well.

Please upgrade to 2.9.17 - there are some things that will make 2.9.16
crash. Another thing is that I suspect that g++ 2.95.x miscompiles PowerDNS
on FreeBSD, can you try to compile using 3.3 or 3.4, if your version was
compiled with 2.95.x?

This is the second recent report of problems on FreeBSD, I'd love to know if
switching compilers helps.
