I operate a registrar (initialesonline.net, selling .com .net
.org for 9 Euros excl. VAT, 10.76 incl. VAT).
We use PDNS for ourselves and for our clients.
I can register pdns.org for you, for free, or any other domain
you might like to replace powerdns.org. (pdns.com and .net seem
taken but inactive...).
The (censored) who jumped on powerdns.org is probably willing to
sell it back to you, but at a (probably steep) price . . . if
powerdns is a registered trademark or something like that you
may have some possibility of getting it back under the UDRP, but
I have no experience in that.

PS: FWIW powerdns.com is in registrar-lock, which protects you
against malicious transfers, powerdns.net is not. Won't protect
you against not renewing, though.
