[Pdns-users] start not working, monitor does

The bug goes away if you use the version we compiled or not use Red Hat 7.x.
Until somebody steps forward to give me access to a machine exhibiting the
problem, I can't help. The one machine I have with Red Hat 7.x does not have
the problem.

I'd love to solve the problem but it is too weird to figure it out by just
looking at the source.
