d_mask=~(0xFFFFFFFF>>bits); in iputils.hh doesn't work for 32 bits. It 
seems, the processor does something like bits=bits%32 before shifting 
:-(

The attached diff fixes this.
If you don't want to recompile your software, use <ipaddr>/31. This 
works and allows only one more ip address.
