I'm going to switch to Ubuntu Jaunty then, I don't need any extra headaches.
:-)

The issue I was having appears to be due to the unavailability (afaik) of
automake 2.6 for centos. If that doesn't help I'll send you error output
tomorrow.

After that I'm going to switch over to Ubuntu Jaunty.
